McDonald’s, arguably, is one of the most successful small businesses that became a brand recognised worldwide.
The rise of McDonald’s is famously depicted in the movie The Founder.
The McDonald brothers used Taylorism and Scientific Management to analyse and synthesise workflows. They created an efficient, fast, predictable, trainable, and productive system to make burgers.
They designed a system of how it is to be done and continuously sought to improve it to find the best possible method.
It was not the McDonald brothers who took that system to the world but Ray Kroc. As an entrepreneur, he saw the potential and negotiated a deal with the brothers to take the concept across the USA and later on to the world.
And yet, I’ve discovered and continue to see daily that many business owners do not know the significance and power of the model created by McDonald’s.
For example:
Does your business have a documented How it is done process?
Do you invest time and resources to analyse and seek better ways of doing what you do?
Of the three mindsets required to run a business, where do you allocate most of your time and resources?
- The entrepreneur role provides the vision, creativity, and energy that drive the business.
- The manager is a pragmatist who translates the vision into reality through planning and systems.
- The technician is an individualist and a doer who produces the product or service. Source (The E Myth)
